New Orleans Square is a themed land found at Disneyland. It is based on 19th century New Orleans.it was the first new land to be added to Disneyland after the park's opening, at a cost of $18 million and covering roughly three acres.
The name is a misnomer, since it is not a square, but a series of "streets" with shopsand resturants. The land was public on July 24, 1966.The New Orleans mayor,Victor H. Schiro was part of the dedication ceremony. Schiro announced Walt Disney had been made an honorary citizen of New Orleans; Disney joked the addition cost as much as the original Louisiana Purchase. This was Walt Disney's last major public appearance at Disneyland before his death in December 1966.
